STUDIO SESSION

Improvisation in Eden studios, May.
"Can't Forget About You" - Nas ft. Chrisette Michele

One of my most admire directors, Yury Butusov, told me that the reason the music is so loud in his shows (much to critics judgement) is "because I like loud music." The power music has on my body is profound. When I don't know how to move, I lean into my desire to move to unhealthy decibels and let my body do the writing. By capturing this process on film I can glean the gold from the mess of my inner thoughts made visible. I watched this footage seeing a score, a story, an image that can be used for further projects.

This physical improv took place after I had spent the night reading and watching the news following the murder of George Floyd.

The lines of the windows, the light, trees , lack of mirrors, loud music; a space to make my own.

I want to feel close to bodies whose stories I cannot begin to fathom.

I reflect things that shouldn't be forgotten.

This is about rage and the feeling of uselessness.

I write what my body tells me to.
