ART IS A MEANS, NOT AN ENDS.
A response to racism/ activism / protests.
I used to walk the streets of Minneapolis. Know all the greatest dance parties. I wrote google reviews for my favorite spots, talked to Lizzo and cried for Prince. I worked at First Avenue, I served coffee in Uptown, I taught yoga to the only studio I knew with a POC owner. When the riots surrounding the murder of George Floyd started, it pained me to be so far away from the people and the streets that I didn't love but certainly had found a home for a while. I did not know how to feel, but I knew I had to do something even if infinitesimally insignificant.
Racism has gained exposure over the years without me taking it seriously, without believing a difference can be made, without recognizing my privilege as a white-passing POC. I want to find my process of creating politically charged art. The processes below are examples of writing that has not resulted in a product. They are artistic processes that provoke action, refleciton, and courage. The ends of these processes are not on the stage, page, or gallery, they will be in conversation, body and international change.
